Bathroom Storage Makeover Ideas!

When updating your bathroom and giving it a makeover, a good place to start is with bathroom storage. This is the first step you need to take.

This is because it is such a used room in the house with health related consequences if we don't keep a clean, tidy and organized bathroom.

Bathrooms, unfortunately need a constant effort to keep them from becoming the ‘Room of Mould’ or the dumping ground for everything grotty! There are some ways you can reduce the amount of work it takes to keep this room presentable and clean. Here are some bathroom storage solutions I have picked up along the way...

  • One of the best bathroom storage options is to use trays or baskets to group like items together. This may include designating a tray to each person and all their creams and deodorants must be returned to their tray.

  • I use one of my toiletry bags to store all my nail care items. This includes tweezers, scissors, nail polish and nail file. It means those items don’t get ruined amoungst everything else. It also means it’s easy to do a project on your nails because you just grab the small bag.

  • Do the same with your makeup.

  • Toiletry items can really build up. Especially ones that are given as gifts and you never use or aren’t using yet. I have a large gift box in the bottom of one of the bathroom cupboards and all those items that are not yet opened go in there. It means if I need an emergency gift I can go there first. It also means you have a supply when you want to treat yourself and have run out of the product you were using.

  • Store bath toys in a mesh bag and hang them over the bath so the water can drain away.

  • Put hooks on the back of the bathroom door to hang towels or bathrobes. Half way down you could also install a rod across the door for more hanging space if necessary.

  • Bathroom cupboards are often like the cupboards under the sink in the kitchen. No shelves and a lot of unused space. You can place stackable trays in there to store various items.

  • You can mount vinyl coated racks on the inside of cupboard doors to hold bathroom items.

  • Always store according the how often you use an item and according to other like items. Eg. Skincare, nailcare, haircare, shaving & waxing.

  • Consider getting a wall mount for your hair dryer for easy access.

  • Keep drawers neat with silverware divider trays.

  • Keep a basket for dirty washing in here. That way dirty clothes and towels don't stay on the floor but are ready to be washed. I use a coloured bucket for coloureds and a white one for whites. They are also about the same size as a full load in my washing machine so I can just tip the whole bucket in when it's full.

The important thing is that you don't end up with too many products and utensils in your cupboards that you never use. As you sort through your storage options, make sure you throw out what is old or never going to be used. Any items still useful and unopened you could store away for surprise gifts or make into a hamper for someone.

The next step in ensuring a clean, organized bathroom is of course to organize your bathroom ! These are ideas on how to USE your bathroom in a way that will help keep it cleaner and clutter free.

The third step involves actually cleaning your bathroom. So, here are my 10 Steps to a Clean Bathroom
