10 Steps to a Clean Bathroom

Having a clean bathroom does not have to be the hardest thing to achieve. The secret is all about small and regular maintaining jobs rather than long and heavy cleaning routines!

However, what I have discovered, is that if you don't do bathroom cleaning right, your bath turns a yellow scum colour, the bottom of your toilet has a browny scum that is hard to remove and the drains in your sink are going black with mould.

STEP 1: Before you begin you need to make sure the exhaust fans are going and windows are open! Get your supplies ready. You will need:

  • Sponge
  • Old rag
  • Rubber gloves
  • Bucket
  • Glass cleaner
  • Cream cleanser
  • Disinfectant
  • Broom & mop

STEP 2: Shake off any floor mats outside and hang outside to air.

STEP 3: Sweep floor first so that water doesn’t affect your efforts to get rid of hair and dust etc off the floor. Don’t mop yet as we’ll do that last. The floor will probably get wet through this process anyway.

STEP 4: Put on your gloves, lift lid of toilet seat and spray with disinfectant. Do seat and surrounds of toilet too. Do not wipe or scrub, just leave to sit at this stage.

STEP 5: Scrub out bath and shower with cream cleanser getting rid of any scum or yellow stains or mould then rinse it off. If you have the mobile shower nozzle this makes this task very easy. Squirt it over with disinfectant and leave.

STEP 6: Wipe all glass and mirrors down with glass cleaner. Make sure they are fairly dry first otherwise the cleaner is diluted and doesn’t work as well.

STEP 7: Spray bench-top, sinks and tap-ware with disinfectant cleaner, wipe down and rinse off.

STEP 8: Wipe over and scrub toilet if necessary. Wipe seat dry and give it a flush ready for the next use

STEP 9: Rinse out shower and bath areas of disinfectant.

STEP 10: Make up a disinfectant solution in bucket and give floors a mop over. Then leave the room to dry

This routine needs to be done once a week.

These steps will prevent the build up of mould and mildew, prevent your bath turning yellow with scum and keep it free from the germs that easily build up in this room. All in all the result is a beautifully clean bathroom from week to week!
