Great Solutions to Declutter Your Home

Houses always look cleaner and are easier to live in when you declutter them. I know it can be difficult though, to get rid of items off benches and out of eye sight when you use them several times a day. Like pens or toasters and keys, handbags, jackets, shoes etc.

HERE ARE SOME TIPS I FIND HELPFUL...

Kitchen

In the kitchen, the best way in how to organize clutter is to sort the gadgets into two piles. The ones you use all the time vs the ones you use once or twice a year. Place regular items into a drawer with a drawer divider (you can buy cheap plastic ones from supermarkets). Place other items into a corner cupboard. Smaller items placed neatly inside a large plastic storage container

De clutter bench top appliances by grouping together on a tray. It can become a display focus within itself. Alternatively, place inside a closable cupboard that has it’s own powerpoints.

General

Organize clutter by designating a drawer, basket or hooks to hang objects that you usually dump when you come home like keys, bags, jackets etc. It means you won’t ever lose them, they won’t clutter up a bench, table or chair and they are ready for you to grab when you next leave the house!

Create a ‘Clutter Jail’ where items people have left lying around get put. Item cannot be reclaimed until a designated time such as Sunday evening where the family member can then pay a small fine to receive it back. To make it more fun for the children, designate who will be the ‘clutter police’ for the week and one of the older children can be in charge of making sure items are confiscated and put in the clutter jail. The only thing to avoid is children deliberately stealing each other’s items and leaving them around so they are confiscated.

Office

Desks can look cluttered very easily. The best way to declutter them of paperwork is to have different trays that stack up for different paperwork such as bills to pay, notices of dates that need to be recorded or papers that need to be filed. Make sure you have a well labelled and organized filing system in which to put the paperwork once you have finished with it.

Bathroom

Work out what you use the most in the bathroom and once again declutter by puttting it in a drawer with a drawer divider or display in creative bathroom holders on the bench. Keep clustered together to create a feature on bathroom bench top.

For products that don’t get used very often, group them together in like products and place in plastic boxes or trays. Eg body products, face products, make up etc. Place them in clearly labelled stackable storage boxes with lids. Clear ones are really good. I say stackable storage boxes because many bathroom cupboards are just one open space rather than useable shelves. And even on shelves, boxes work together better than other solutions like make up bags. Open trays are good for regular use items on a shelf.

All in all declutter by just making a storage place for EVERYTHING and make it a space that is practical!
