4 Basic Steps to Home organization
Home Organization is not that hard to do in theory! However I usually put in all that effort to organize my house and within a day or two its crazy again!
So, what’s the trick?
Here are four ideas that have helped me…..
1. The first step in housekeeping is to regularly work on ONE ROOM AT A TIME. Choose one room each week or month (depending on how much time you have to dedicate to this project). When you focus on this one room, get rid of items you don't need or use, put items away where they need to go and give everything a really good clean. Use this room by room guide:
2. The second step in how to organize your house is to do some CLEANING. A good way to keep on top of the cleaning is to have a list of daily cleaning tasks you do, weekly cleaning tasks that need to be done and a yearly cleaning schedule that makes sure that windows or gutterings or garden beds also get a makeover every now and then. The

has all of these worksheets and lists to help you.
3. Home organization for step 3 is to deal with CLUTTER. You can do this for each room as you go or do a general declutter burst. Go around the house or room and collect up everything that is not in its place. Create three piles. Pile 1 - Use Day to Day. Pile 2 - Use Seasonally and Pile 3 - Haven't used in Ages / Rubbish.
The “Use Day to Day” pile you will organize neatly into the space/home it belongs in. The “Seasonal Use” pile put in a storage space that is hard to reach and you don’t access often. The “Haven’t Used in Ages” pile you are going to dispose of. You can give it away to an opportunity shop or you could check out these ideas on How to Make Some Money from your goods and find the best option that suits you. 4. Home Organization step 4 is to select good STORAGE SYSTEMS for your seasonal items and place those “Use Seasonally” items in them and store them away. Clear storage is great because you can see the items inside. Make sure you pack similar items together so it isn’t hard to access one or two things if the need arises and you don’t have to open a heap of different boxes or bags.

I’m a bit of a hoarder myself and I’ve spent many years collecting favourite things and finding creative ways to pack them away so the house looks like an organized home. I've only just realised that this doesn't really solve the problem of being organized. It may make things look nice for a small amount of time but it is harder to keep clean and tidy. And it still makes it very hard to find what you need. Getting rid of clutter really is what is necessary to build an organized home.
I now make the effort to go work on these four steps once regularly. After organizing my home according to these four steps I love:
- the feeling of freshness it brings
- How the messy look has finally gone from my home
- My home looks cleaner for longer between tidy ups
- My home is a lot quicker to clean
- I am less frustrated when I do clean and tidy up because there is less to clear away and less STUFF to create clutter and mess
Organizing my home is not complicated and I think I am finally learning the secret of Home Organization! Feel free to share your ideas on how you organize your home on the CONTACT ME page.
