Kitchen Storage Solutions

Keep your kitchen stress free with these kitchen storage solutions. Who would have known that storage would have such an impact on how we feel and react? But it does!

There is nothing worse than struggling to find all the attachments of your blender or having a dozen half empty packets of food that don't fit in your storage cannisters. They create mess, the food spills and recently I ended with icing sugar over EVERYTHING in the pantry because of this exact problem. When you're in a hurry, don't tell me this doesn't drive you crazy!

So lets look at how to organize your kitchen:

  • Save only five grocery bags at a time. You tend to accumulate more than you use and they create mess! Or use one of those fabric, column bags for holding grocery bags. They can hang on the backs of doors etc. Just make sure you throw out the grocery bags that don’t fit in. Alternatively, save the environment and shop with material grocery bags.
  • Keep dishes and glasses stored in cupboards with doors rather than on shelves. This will prevent them going grey with dust and sticky with grease.
  • Don’t put silverware through the dishwasher
  • Label your shelves in your freezer to save time searching for what you need. Examples are: Breads and Quick Meals, Vegetables, Desserts and Beverages, Meat.
  • Along that same idea, any food stored in plastic containers, particularly if you are freezing the food, put a label on the container. You should specify what the food is as well as the date so you know how long you can keep it for. If food is frozen, it is often hard to recognise what it is.This has been a great tip in how to organize your kitchen storage.
  • If you have lots of plastic ware and struggle to know what lid goes with what box, you could number the bottom of each box and lid. This way you know when you have a heap of spare lids that just need throwing away!
  • Think carefully about storage solutions when you buy new kitchen appliances. They often come with spare parts and warranty booklets. Store all of those extra’s in a ziplock bag so you know what appliance they belong to. I then keep all my receipt, warranty and spare parts bags in a box. You just never know when you might need to return or enquire about that item.
  • Think about who uses your kitchen. Designate a shelf or drawer full of healthy snacks the children know they can help themselves to.
  • Probably one of the most obvious kitchen storage tips is to ensure you actually have a home for everything. A place to store each item in your kitchen. This is the best way to prevent things from piling up and getting lots in inconspicuous places
