This is the end to diets and putting in big efforts to short lived exercise routines. Lifestyle family fitness and health means that little things every day are done in order to ensure you all live long, healthy and active lives.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
- Our health and fitness affects how well we can interact and play with our children as they grow up.
- It also affects the length and quality of life we will lead.
- Types and regularity of sicknesses we may get
- Food and exercise affect our behaviour. If you’re struggling with your children’s behaviour look at their food, exercise and sleep patterns first.
WHAT IS LIFESTYLE FAMILY FITNESS AND HEALTH?
It is when you organize certain family exercises into your every day routine or chose to always eat a certain way in order to be a healthy family that you see an increase in lifestyle family fitness and health. It’s being aware of what your family needs and being able to provide it in the best way possible. We don’t need to be experts but there are some easy things we can do in order to be prepared.
The tips I have found most helpful in developing a healthy family are:
Go with the seasons – different weather promotes different types of activity. Make use of water sports in the summer which are fun and great for muscle tone. In winter make use of indoor sports stadiums, cooler weather for taking hikes and exploring new places. On this note please be prepared for being out and about in summer. Especially for those of you away on summer camps or holidays. There are some
family health tips that will ensure you are all safe and sound during the summer season.
Take turns – have everyone write down what their favourite activity is (active activity!) and then take turns to do each person’s favourite activity together as a family. This could range from different versions of tag to body surfing, cricket or horse riding. But you all have to try everything! You never know, you may find a new passion!
When you are down the street – Lifestyle family fitness is developed in the decisions you make. Park a distance from everything and walk everywhere. A friend of mine has a skateboard like attachment for her pram so that when her toddler can’t walk anymore, he stands on that. He has the time of his life, is safe and can’t get lost!
Shopping and cooking – don’t buy food that you don’t want eaten. If its there, you will ultimately give in at some stage. That is food like chips, chocolate, lollies, cakes, soft drink.

You may be surprised at how much fruit and vegetables you all should be eating every day. Look after yourself – as a mother at home, your kids rely on you to be well, in a happy mood, creative, fit and knowledgeable. Sometimes you may get overwhelmed with the expectations on you as a mother. But the recipe is simple.
- Sleep much – go to bed early and nap when they nap
- Eat well – don’t forget to eat as you do all your jobs and don’t snack on junk when you remember you’re hungry. When you make the kids a healthy sandwich prepare one for yourself too. If there’s not time to eat it when you are doing their lunches, wrap it and keep it in the fridge until you can.
- Keep physically and mentally active by doing vigorous housework and reading interesting books that teach you and grow you.

Lifestyle family fitness and health is a journey and you won’t achieve everything you want straight away. Just pick one or two things you can change this week. Then come back and pick anther two things to change the next week. Bit by bit you will find your energy levels picking up, the behaviour of your children improving, your family unity strengthening because you are doing more things together and overall you may even stop going grey (prematurely that is)!
