Organize Bedroom Chaos

Organize Bedroom mess and confusion and make it an enjoyable place to be!

Organizing the bedroom can be difficult to achieve because it is probably one of the most lived in rooms, especially by children. Finding solutions to help keep kids rooms and your own room clean are important but they must be solutions that are easy for that person to follow.

Here are the A – Z of ideas to get you started….

A: Organize bedroom mess by allowing airspace under the beds.It makes for good storage. There are some great looking storage options that can add to the appeal of your bedroom to that seeing them under your bed is not an eyesore. This is a great spot for seasonal storage. I use this space for bedding and clothes and toys not in use.

B: Bed design is important. How much room does your bed allow for other pieces of furniture in the room, does the bed allow for storage underneath? Particularly in kids rooms. Bed designs that come with trundle beds are great for sleepovers, or beds that actually incorporate storage into their structure.

C: Clothes can be hung or folded but choose a closet organization method that suits the user. For example, most of my clothes need ironing so I prefer to hang them so I don’t have to iron too regularly.

D: Organize bedroom dirty washing by puttig a basket in the bedroom. This is a great organize bedroom tip for my husband and worked well for my brother and I when we were teenagers. It means a lot less mess left on the floor if you can teach them to at least throw it into this basket. There are some great looking options too.

E: Expect tidiness from your kids in kids rooms even when they are really little. Because I have chosen easy storage, even my 1 year old loves trying to help put the blocks and cars away. Obviously it’s too much to expect chidren to clean up kids rooms on their own at this age.

However, imagine how much easier it will be when they are 4 or 5 and they already know how to organize bedrom chaos at the end of each day! It is helping them create good habits right from the beginning. Good home organization habits.

F: Follow a set routine for bedroom organization cleanup. For example, in the morning the bed is to be made and all clothes put away or in the washing basket. In the evening after their bath, all toys to go away and time to sit on their bed and do some quiet reading. Whatever your routine, make it consistent because children respond to this very positively. It gives them security.

When children know what is expected from them they know when they have done right or done wrong and there is no confusion in discipline. Find out more about family routines and how important they are to family life.

G: Guest room space: I mentioned trundle beds before but they are only appropriate if your guest is a playmate for your children. For adult guests fold out sofa beds work well and can be placed in an office space. Furniture items that have dual purposes are great organizational tools.

H: Handbags and evening bags can be fiddly and messy. I usually pack them all into my largest bag and can then hang that bag up on a hook behind a door or in the cupboard. It means they don’t get lost or crumpled at the bottom of a wardrobe. And the only take up the space of one handbag!

I: Isolate the biggest issue that is causing you to organize bedroom chaos and start working with that. There is no point in becoming overwhelmed. Just do little bits at a time and you’ll be able to see more clearly what the best solution is for each organize bedroom issue you have.

J: Jewellery for me is one of the hardest things to keep neat and organized in the bedroom. The best thing I have seen has been a wall hanger with various hooks to hang necklaces and bracelets from.

You can hang your shorter items like earrings from the top hooks and work your way down to the longer items like necklaces at the bottom of the rack. This way they don’t overlap and become entangled. Jewellery boxes are pretty and great for items that don’t become tangled easily but they are just not suitable for long fiddly pieces with hooks and bits.

K: Keep your bedroom organized with basic decorations. Too many knick knacks and photo frames etc mean more dust collectors.

L: LAWS! Set Organize Bedroom laws like: last person out of bed makes the bed – that’s the rule in our house. It means you don’t come back to bed that night and it’s still a mess. I hate that feeling! Because the bed is such a focal point in a bedroom, just by the bed being made, the rest of the room can look so much tidier and organized.

M: Mattresses – Not a big organize bedroom visual but important all the same. Air them outside once every six months to freshen them up and when you bring them back in, turn them around to put the body pressure on different parts of the mattress. Just like rotating tyres on a car.

N: New clothes are an exciting edition to your wardrobe. But whenever you do get new clothes, make sure you sort through your old ones to make sure you get rid of anything you aren’t wearing anymore. If you haven’t worn it in the last year, get rid of it. (unless its maternity wear and you’re hoping to fall pregnant again). Clothes are one of those items that build up and burst out of your draws and cupboards. They are the biggest clutter agents. Be tough.

O: Open windows regularly in your bedroom to get rid of that stuffy smell. Fresh air is much better and healthier than any air freshner in a can.

P: Pillows in bedroom organization need to be replaced every 12 – 18 months because of the build up of dust mites, drool and sweat. Otherwise they can cause allergies, breathing problems and a proneness to different respiratory problems.

Q: Quilts can be a pain to wash so make sure there is always something between your body and the quilt like an extra sheet or blanket. It means your quilt will last for longer because you don’t have to clean it as often. It saves you time too so is a good organize bedroom tip.

R: Rugs are a great way to protect the carpet and also provide another source for decoration. I find throw rugs are particularly good for organizing play time in kids rooms because they create a boundary. Lego games kept on a throw rug means I don’t find pieces all around the house. When it comes time to pack up, I grab the corners of the throw rug and pour the Lego bits back in their box. This system can work for blocks, puzzles and all sorts of games.

S: Suitable Storage: To organize bedroom toys in kids rooms I select bright, colourful draws or boxes that are low to the ground, easy to use and easy to put the appropriate items back into. For my husband and myself we use special hanging shelves to put our shoes in but use a box for our children to put their shoes in. So think about what is appropriate for each person. More Storage Ideas...

T: Toy Rotation. This is where you select a number of toys to be played with at any one week or fortnight and you pack the rest away. I friend told me about this idea and its fantastic! Children become so familiar and bored with their things so if you bring out a different set of toys each fortnight you will keep them occupied and more content with more of their toys for longer! It also helps de-clutter the kids rooms.

U: Under the window sill is often a good spot to place toy chests or other good looking storage type boxes. These are a great help in organzing bedroom mess. If you structure them right and place pillows on them, they can double as a great seat in the bedroom. Especially if it’s by the window, it’s a great spot for some reading or organizing your day in your Family Planner.

V: A Valance is good for covering up what’s under the bed if you use it for storage and don’t want anyone to see! There are all sorts of shapes and sizes when it comes to storage containers that could fit under beds and a valance can add to your bedrooms décor.

W: Wet Towels left on carpets and beds. I have a dear and precious husband who does a lot for me. He is an amazing man but his one weakness has been to leave wet towels in the bedroom. And yes they have been known to build up to about three all piled up in the one spot. To solve this, I brought him a cosy bathrobe (will need to get him a cool cotton one for summer) which he can now wear from the bathroom instead of the towel. Most days it works but he’s getting there. It does take awhile to break a habit!

X: Xtra Comfort can be made from having extra pillows on the bed. It also gives you a place to put your extra pillows without having to store them all away. Toss them on the bed in a decorative style and use your bed top to help organize bedroom clutter.

Y: Your Supplies. It’s amazing the different things we need while we are in bed. Throat lozenges, tissues, drinks of water, pen and paper, books & magazines…. So your bedside draw doesn’t become too cluttered, make sure you have a couple of trays to help hold like items. If you’re like me and have about 5 books on the go, use a single bookend to keep them stacked neatly.

Z: ZZZZzzzzzzz…Anyone in your family snore? Be organized and always keep a pair of ear plugs handy in your drawer. I find I only have a problem with this when someone gets the flu. I once had an awful cough that last almost two weeks and I think my husband would have appreciated those ear plugs then.

Hopefully that has helped you build up your organize bedroom tips or at least given you a place to start! Just remember to focus on how the person in that room operates and think of organization ideas that the person will be able to work with.
