Organize Home Office Start Up Tips

Organize home office mess and feel more motivated to be productive and efficient with your home business or home administration!

The key is to set up your home office correctly so that you have systems that are easy to maintain.

How to organize your home office:

- It must be comfortable and productive so select a good chair and desk match. Desks that are too high or low affect how you work. Chairs affect your posture and ability to concentrate before you start to get stiff and sore

- Use a spare room or corner of another room where you get good light and can concentrate. Take into account if you need to be near a phone line.

- Do you need to mark out the space of the office to partition it off from the room it shares with? You can use a chinese screen or bookshelf.

- If you want the office to blend into the room it’s in (if it is being shared with a living area) then a closeable desk is often a good idea. Either a desk that has it’s own cover or a desk built into a cupboard where you can close the doors when you are done and the desk mess (your work in progress) doesn’t interfere with the rest of the room!

- Cheap and effective desk options are pieces of timber over two filing cabinets or over one filing cabinet and one bedside table with drawers. That will give you your drawers and your filing drawers. Desks with drawers of differing depths are best

How to organize your desk:

Make sure you have all items that help you at your fingertips (the less reason to get up out of your chair the better).

Examples would be:

o Desk calendar

o Calculator

o Desk clock

o Desk light (moveable head is great!)

o Desk radio

o Coffee flask

o Snack stash (health or not so depending on what you want!)

OTHER TIPS

Have filing system, waste paper basket and stationary within reach of your chair. Use your top desk drawer for items you use regularly such as pens, scissors etc.

If you have a phone on your desk make sure you have a notepad and pen right next to it to make notes and take messages.

Always pack away work once you are finished. Don’t leave it to pile up on the desk or you won’t want to come back next time and important items are easily lost. Especially if other people use the same desk.

Organize Home Office mess before you begin work or you will quickly become frustrated. Make sure there is lots of bench space on your desk so that it’s not cluttered up with lots of gadgets. All the best and I hope your work is productive!
